The short answer
Costco sells 1 oz gold bars from PAMP Suisse and Rand Refinery, American Eagle and American Buffalo gold coins, a 1 oz platinum bar and Kirkland Signature silver bars on its website, to paying members only, and a few of these items may also be sold in its warehouses. Purchases are limited to a few pieces per membership each day, can’t be returned, and Costco won’t buy them back, so you’ll have to sell to a dealer later. Reported prices have been a few percent over the spot price, close to what large online dealers charge, and Costco’s Citi Visa card and its Executive membership can each earn 2% back in rewards.

What Costco sells
Costco started selling 1 oz gold bars online in the late summer of 2023 and has added products since. In September 2026 its precious metals page listed:
- 1 oz gold bars from PAMP Suisse (the Lady Fortuna design, with PAMP’s Veriscan authentication) and Rand Refinery, both LBMA Good Delivery refiners, sealed in assay packaging
- 2026 American Eagle and American Buffalo 1 oz gold coins from the U.S. Mint
- A 1 oz PAMP platinum bar, 99.95% pure
- Kirkland Signature 1 oz silver bars, 99.99% pure, sold in packs of five, a Costco-brand product added in 2026
Prices appear only to members who are signed in. The Rand Refinery bar, the Gold Eagle and the platinum bar are marked online only. The PAMP gold bar and Kirkland Signature silver bar listings say they may be available at your local warehouse, where prices may be different. Stock varies, so check with your warehouse before making a trip.
How the prices compare
Costco doesn’t publish its pricing policy, but reported prices have run a few percent over spot. In early 2026, CNBC Select wrote that Costco typically charges 1% to 2% over the spot price. In mid-September 2026, Moneywise reported the PAMP 1 oz bar at $4,459.99 with gold around $4,300, about 3.7% over spot by our math. Costco’s price doesn’t always move in step with the market: in May 2025, Money reported a Rand bar priced at about $3,250 while gold was near $3,295, slightly below spot.
For comparison, three large online dealers charged 2.8% to 4.4% over spot for the same 1 oz PAMP bar on September 26, 2026, according to our monthly premium check. Costco’s price includes insured shipping and is paid by card, while those dealer prices are for check or wire, before shipping; paying two of those dealers by card cost about 4% more. So Costco’s price is broadly in line with big dealers, and the rewards below can tip it in Costco’s favor.
Rewards and payment
Costco.com takes Visa cards, Mastercard, most debit cards and Costco Shop Cards. Costco’s product pages note that the Costco Anywhere Visa Card by Citi earns 2% cash back on these purchases, and CNBC Select reports that Executive members’ 2% annual reward applies to gold too, so a member with both can earn up to 4% back. Those are rewards paid out later under each program’s terms, not a discount at checkout. The Executive reward is capped at $1,250 in any 12 months, the Executive membership costs $65 a year more than a Gold Star membership, and Costco’s list of purchases excluded from the reward doesn’t mention precious metals. When you compare prices, count any extra membership cost, sales tax and card interest.
The limits
Costco has changed its limits several times as demand rose and fell. It started at two bars per member in 2023, raised the limit to five in 2024, cut it to two per 24 hours in May 2025, and by early 2026 allowed four. In September 2026, the gold and platinum listings we checked allowed one transaction and four units per membership every 24 hours, and the Kirkland silver bars five units. Some listings, such as the Buffalo coin’s, also limit precious metals orders to eight units a day to the same address. Popular items often sell out.
The catches
- No returns. Costco lists its gold and silver as non-refundable and not eligible for price adjustments, unlike most things it sells.
- No buyback. Costco doesn’t buy gold or silver back, so when you sell you’ll go to a coin shop, an online dealer or another buyer.
- Where it ships. Delivery rules differ by listing. In September 2026, the PAMP gold bar, the Eagle and Buffalo coins, the platinum bar and the Kirkland silver bars couldn’t be delivered to Alaska, Nevada or Puerto Rico, and the Rand Refinery bar couldn’t be delivered to Nevada. Someone has to be there to sign when it arrives.
- Sales tax depends on your state. Many states exempt bullion, but not all. Washington, for example, began taxing precious metal bullion sales on January 1, 2026, while Maryland restored its exemption for purchases over $1,000 on July 1, 2026.
Selling Costco gold later
A sealed PAMP or Rand Refinery bar is a well-known product that dealers buy readily. Keep it in its assay packaging and hold on to your receipt. Dealers usually pay a little under spot: CNBC, citing The Wall Street Journal, reported in 2025 that local bullion dealers may pay 1% to 5% below spot for a standard 1 oz gold bar, and in our September check Money Metals Exchange would have bought a PAMP 1 oz bar back at about 3% below spot. Any buyer may still test a bar before paying.
Gains are taxed as gains on collectibles, at a top federal rate of 28% for metal held more than a year. Our guides to selling gold and how gold is taxed cover the details.
Is Costco gold a good deal?
For a member who wants a few 1 oz bars or Gold Eagles, Costco’s prices have been competitive with big online dealers, and the rewards make them a little better. The trade-offs are the purchase limits, no returns and no buyback, so you’ll need to find a buyer when you sell. If you’re buying a larger amount, or want other products, a dealer offers more choice. Our guides to gold bars and gold coins or bars can help you decide what to buy.
Frequently asked questions
Can you buy gold in Costco stores?
Sometimes. Most of Costco’s gold listings are marked online only, but its PAMP gold bar and Kirkland Signature silver bar listings say they may be available at local warehouses, where prices may differ. Stock varies from warehouse to warehouse, so check before you go.
How much gold can you buy at Costco?
In September 2026, Costco’s gold and platinum listings allowed one transaction and four units per membership every 24 hours, and some listings also capped precious metals orders at eight units a day to the same address. Costco has changed these limits several times.
Does Costco buy back gold?
No. You’ll need to sell to a dealer or another buyer. A sealed bar from a well-known refiner such as PAMP or Rand Refinery is easy to sell.
Is Costco gold real?
Costco’s bars come from PAMP Suisse and Rand Refinery, both LBMA Good Delivery refiners, sealed in assay packaging with serial numbers. As with any bar, a buyer may still test it when you sell.
