Gramercy Gold

Independent precious-metals guides

About Gramercy Gold

Gramercy Gold is an independent website that explains gold, silver and precious-metals IRAs in plain English. We’ve published guides since 2014. In 2026 we rebuilt the site and rewrote every guide from scratch to reflect current rules, prices and research.

What we do

We write guides for people who are thinking about buying precious metals, or who already own some, and want straight answers: how a gold IRA works, what a coin really costs, which rules the IRS enforces, and where the risks are. Each guide starts with a short answer, explains the details, and ends with a list of the sources we relied on.

Our guides are grouped into four sections:

  • Gold IRAs: how precious-metals IRAs work, rollovers, fees and storage rules.
  • Buying gold and silver: coins, bars, prices, dealers and red flags.
  • Coin guides: the main bullion coins, one by one.
  • Learn: what moves metal prices, how gold compares with other investments, and related topics such as crypto.

What we don’t do

We don’t sell gold, silver or any other product. We aren’t a dealer, a custodian or a financial advisor, and we don’t hold anyone’s money or metal. Our guides are general information, not advice about your own situation. For that, talk to a fee-only financial planner, a tax professional or an attorney.

Who writes and checks the guides

Our guides are researched and written by the Gramercy Gold Editorial Team. James Shaffer is the site’s editor and is responsible for what we publish. Thomas Rockford, a financial analyst, reviews guides for accuracy, and each guide he has reviewed shows his name and the review date at the top.

We research each topic from primary sources wherever we can: the tax code and IRS guidance, the mints that make the coins, regulators such as the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the SEC and FINRA, exchanges and benchmark administrators such as CME Group and the LBMA, and industry research bodies such as the World Gold Council and the Silver Institute. Our editorial policy explains how we research, check and update our work.

How we’re paid

Right now we don’t earn money from any company we write about. If that changes, we’ll say so on this site and on any page where it applies. How we make money has the details.
